Richmond Casino Hub Gets Closer to Reality as Casino Firms Present Plans

Golden Nugget Online Gaming Inc. and Wind Creek Hospitality are two of the top contenders for the coveted casino project in Richmond City. The two companies have submitted their proposals for the luxurious casino venue, each highlighting their unique offerings and designs.

The Richmond casino project has garnered a lot of attention from various big brands in the industry. The proposed resort venue is set to cost a staggering $400 Million and will feature top-of-the-line facilities for patrons. Situated just 6 miles from downtown Richmond and 20 miles from the Richmond International Airport, the casino will be easily accessible to visitors. The plans include a 177-room hotel with 37 suites, as well as over 93,000 square feet of gaming space. The gaming area will house 1,900 slot machines, 92 table games, and eight poker tables. Additionally, there will be a 1,500-seat entertainment venue and a 16,000 square foot event space.

Golden Nugget is currently in talks with multiple landowners to secure a suitable location for the project. The company is also planning to involve the African-American community in the area by offering them a small stake in the project. As part of their community engagement efforts, Golden Nugget will donate $70 million to Richmond Public Schools along with other initiatives.

Lorenzo Creighton, the executive leading the Golden Nugget Richmond Hotel and Casino project, expressed his confidence in the chosen site, stating that they have the perfect location for a world-class casino.

Wind Creek Hospitality’s proposed casino project will be located at 1220 and 1260 Ingram Avenue, near the Oak Grove and Manchester neighborhoods. The $541 million project will be completed in two phases and will feature a 100,000 square foot gaming area with 2,500 slot machines and 120 table games. The venue will also offer 252 luxurious hotel rooms, seven dining options, a spa, indoor pool, fitness center, and a 67,000 square foot entertainment venue.

Arthur Mothershed, EVP of Business Development and Government Affairs at Wind Creek, emphasized that the new casino will bring numerous job opportunities to the local community while providing top-notch hospitality and gaming services to visitors. The team is dedicated to creating an exceptional experience for guests.

Both Wind Creek and Golden Nugget are among the six casino firms vying for the Richmond project. With state regulations permitting only one casino in the city, the proposals will be carefully reviewed by a panel before a final decision is made by the City Council. The selected project will then need to pass a public referendum in November. The competition is fierce as the companies vie for the lucrative opportunity to develop the premier casino in Richmond City.
